After a successful 2025 season, and as we prepare for the 2026 season starting in April, we are looking for new members who want to enjoy a sport while experiencing the health and social benefits that playing bowls brings.

In principle, like many other sports, bowls is an easy game to understand but can be a challenging one to master. This challenge, however, lies at the heart of the sport’s appeal. The enjoyment comes not just from the competition, but from the rewarding process of practice, learning the nuances of the game, refining your technique, and mastering your skills.

The club is open to everyone, and we welcome players of all abilities from absolute beginners to experienced bowlers. So, if you’ve never bowled before, that’s fine! We offer free coaching sessions for beginners, and you’ll be able to use some of the club’s spare bowls when you start. All you need is the willingness to give it a try. We particularly welcome junior members, as there is a growing number of younger players taking up the sport across the county and we are keen to support and promote that growing interest in the game here in the Porthcawl area.

Lawn bowls is a competitive sport, and we play in three leagues during the season as well as internal club competitions. If you’ve ever played or enjoyed watching a competitive sport before, you’ll understand that we always play to win, but we also play for the social aspect that comes with being part of the bowls club and the wider leagues. But if you’re a beginner and don’t feel ready to play competitively there are plenty of days when members come down to the club to practise bowls and put the world to rights.

From a health and wellbeing perspective, bowls is a great low-impact form of exercise that promotes movement, balance, and coordination, all in the fresh air, and quite often with a sea breeze when we play at home! Bowls also creates a strong bond between teammates and, quite often, opposition players through shared highs and lows. This provides a relaxed environment where friendships form naturally through the shared experience of play.

So, if you’ve ever walked past us playing in Griffin Park and wondered what it’s all about, now is the time to find out. We’d really like you to come and join us next season! If you’re interested, please get in touch using our contact page. Contact Us
